Today is probably my favorite day of the year: opening Saturday for College Football. College football is great for so many reasons, possibly the most important being that ESPN’s Top Plays once again has real highlights now that baseball isn’t the only sport playing. Anyway, today we got to watch some really impressive football. Here are some of our favorites games of the day:

Michigan vs. UConn

Michigan, and in particular Rich Rodriguez, were in an almost desperate situation for a win today. Since Lloyd Carr left two years ago they have been anything but impressive, winning only 8 of 24 games and failing to reach a bowl game two consecutive years. Although its only one game into the season, I’m getting really excited about how this year’s team, especially after their 30-10 victory over UConn. Their sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson rushed and passed for almost 400 total yards combined and looked like a calm and posed. Michigan looks to have a strong season at this point. Check out this HD highlight real of the game.

Alabama vs. San Jose State

Last year’s National Champion prooved they are still a very strong team even with the absence of Heisman winner Mark Ingram, as they defeated San Jose State 48-3. Not exactly an impressive opponent but how many first games are? Check out Gameday’s pregame analysis of the game:

TCU vs. Oregon State

Everyone knows the story behind non-BCS teams like TCU and Boise State: they go undefeated in their non-power conference but still don’t get a chance to be featured in the National Championship. This year represented a change, however. Both Boise State and TCU both started in the Top 10, with initial non conference games against strong opponents in an attempt to gain more respect. TCU proved they deserve their preseason ranking today by defeating AP #24 Oregon State 30-21. I’m excited to see if they will run the tables again and possibly be an argument to change the BCS system.

LSU. vs. North Carolina

So if your wondering why North Carolina handily lost to LSU, its not because they are over rated. As almost every sports fan has heard, they are missing 9 starters from their team for violations against team policy. Nevertheless, this game was an impressive performance LSU who looks to have a strong season at this point.
